Savalle Sims

Sims oversees all of Discovery’s legal teams and manages lawyers and legal issues in nearly 20 offices worldwide. She’s been instrumental to Discovery in the last year at the helm of all the legal work surrounding the integration of Scripps Networks. If that weren’t enough to keep her busy, Sims provided counsel on multiple other projects including multiyear partnerships with PGA Tour and Tiger Woods, as well as the purchase of controlling interest in Play Sports Group. At Discovery, she says, “we have an inclusive culture that leads to richer thinking, invites more creative solutions, and results in greater productivity.”

What does your company/organization do to ensure all employees feel included?
Fundamentally, Discovery maintains an organization that is inclusive. Our workforce is diverse in that it is comprised of employees who hail from different backgrounds and hold different perspectives, ideologies, experiences, and viewpoints. More importantly, we have an inclusive culture that leads to richer thinking, invites more creative solutions, and results in greater productivity.

How can diversity be better incorporated into the recruiting process?
Recruiting is an important component of building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive organization. In my view, drawing from a pipeline that includes diverse candidates is critical. Partnering with organizations and schools dedicated to facilitating workplace diversity is one way to ensure a diverse pipeline in the recruiting process.

Can you share a successful diversity program at your company or one you’ve observed at another company or organization?
We have many programs internally that are dedicated to facilitating diversity and inclusion within our organization. Externally, I continue to be inspired and impressed by the work WICT is doing.
