Discovery is making some big moves around the world, and Sims is, quite literally, on the case. Elevated last year to her current role, Sims oversees all the company’s legal teams in nearly 20 offices worldwide. Recently, she helmed the legal work surrounding the integration of the recently acquired Scripps Networks, provided counsel on the multiyear partnerships with PGA Tour and Tiger Woods. “The industry is in the midst of important conversations regarding gender and inclusion,” she says. “Continuing these conversations with a commitment toward equal opportunities for all and an honest recognition of the problem are important first steps toward reducing instances of gender discrimination.”

What specifically does your company do to support and elevate the women who work there?
I am fortunate to work in an organization comprised of a significant number of women leaders. By creating an inclusive culture that supports the development of and elevation of women, Discovery has created an environment where all can succeed.

How can the industry do a better job of recruiting women and ensuring they have a path to senior positions?
The industry is in the midst of important conversations regarding gender and inclusion. Continuing these conversations with a commitment toward equal opportunities for all and an honest recognition of the problem are important first steps toward reducing instances of gender discrimination and a step forward toward ensuring that women continue to have an important place in the media industry.

Which current shows best reflects the kind of women’s roles you like to see and why?
There are several programs that currently reflect the diversity of background, viewpoints and interests of women in society including “Big Little Lies,” “Empire” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
