the two main threads of the debate over AI focus on whether we should accelerate AI development (beat China!) or should we try to develop a structure that creates guardrails around that development. Yes, that might slow things down, but is that bad?

today, some will retreat to the “liberal” and “conservative” corners and argue. But the results are bad in the long run whichever “side” you are on, because if we allow one or the other “side” to exclusively define the words, we’re all, eventually, in trouble.

Effros: Ten Years?
I’m not saying we should stop the development of AI. But I do know there’s reasonable concern, and to set up a situation where neither the states nor the federal government could expeditiously look at what might be needed, is a really bad idea.
