Crown and the Hallmark Media family have a whole new calling card these days, with their most diverse and inclusive slate of programming ever coming after Lucas took the helm last July. She established a DEI leadership council to help guide decisions across Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Hallmark Drama, Hallmark Movies Now and other platforms, and internal celebrations around Pride, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month and more. Lucas advises those looking to re-enter the workforce after a hiatus to never lose their sense of curiosity. “You can effectively leverage the lessons learned as you bring new perspectives and insights forward during your re-entry process,” she says.
Best advice for someone looking to re-enter the workforce after a hiatus?
Based on personal experience, I would say never lose your sense of curiosity. A sabbatical gives you the opportunity to truly examine the things you love about life and your career without deadlines or distraction. You may become grounded in a new, unbiased reality leading to new insights on the business and life overall. You can effectively leverage the lessons learned as you bring new perspectives and insights forward during your re-entry process.
What one female empowerment book do you think every woman should read?
I’m reading “Grit, Gravitas and Grace.” Growing up in the South, I was, informally, taught this concept. This book puts it into a much broader context that reinforces how leveraging the concept of grace as a female leader can be incredibly liberating.
