Susette Hsiung

Hsiung is responsible for overseeing the television production companies that create live-action series, animated series and movies for Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior. She leads several workplace initiatives, including a program for aspiring crew members that offers training for women and minorities interested in craft and tech positions. Hsiung also oversaw the development of a director’s program to provide opportunities for women on Disney Channel series and movie productions. “I’d like to see the media and all industries step up efforts to develop a diverse workforce that includes differently abled workers,” she says. She also developed the 360 Girl Task Force and, through a women’s affinity group, works to encourage collaboration and camaraderie among female employees.

What’s a recent example of a step forward for diversity in the industry?

In what areas should the industry step up its efforts with regard to diversity and inclusion?
I’d like to see the media and all industries step up efforts to develop a diverse workforce that includes differently-abled workers.

What’s been the most dramatic change in your sector of the business today vs. three years ago?
While people have always been our most important resource, we have a new emphasis on wellness, mindfulness and culture.
