In overseeing a leading destination for African American women, Winfrey understands the importance of showcasing programs created by prominent African American storytellers, like Ava DuVernay, whose series “Queen Sugar” also boasts a roster of female directors. A multiyear content partnership with Apple will result in new original programs expected to begin debuting later this year. Winfrey extended the “SuperSoul” series with the “Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations” podcast, which has had more than 85 million downloads from around the globe. Her prominence in television history was recently honored with an exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture: “Watching Oprah: The Oprah Winfrey Show and American Culture.”
