Henthorn is gearing up to retire at the end of this year, leaving The Cable Center in excellent shape through her founding of the popular Intrapreneurship Academy. The IA program has graduated more than 200 industry leaders from more than 30 organizations and is a cornerstone of the five-year strategic plan Henthorn helped develop over the past year. Henthorn also founded the Cable Center Ambassadors Program, an elite network of industry thought leaders and Cable Center supporters who collaborate to amplify The Center’s mission and programs. And she herself will join the Center’s board upon retirement. With a career that has spanned decades in cable, Henthorn’s advice to achieve pay equity is to simply ask. “Ask about salary ranges and how they are determined. Ask about the process. And not just while interviewing. If you’re already there, still ask. Transparency is key to equity,” she says.

What question(s) should you ask to ensure you’re achieving pay equity?
Simply ask. Ask about the process. Ask about salary ranges and how they are determined. Ask about the process. And not just while interviewing. If you’re already there, still ask. Transparency is key to equity.

Do you have an example of male allyship that made a difference to you?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without male allyship. Glenn Jones believed in me and made me a system manager—a position that was dominated by men. As a CEO, John Evans has been my advocate and counselor. And, I wouldn’t be in my position without the allyship and support of Michael Willner.

What one female empowerment book do you think every woman should read?
“Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person” by Shonda Rhimes. And all the work by Audre Lorde is worthy.
