Ruiz oversees quite a diverse unit that consists of tens of thousands of front-line sales employees. With that diversity, he makes sure the company remains equipped with tools like Spanish-language call centers and hiring bilingual sales representatives. Ruiz helped shift Charter’s sales strategy on connectivity as a core residential service with offerings like Spectrum One, while also getting his organization ready for the launch of the Xumo Stream Box.

What advice would you give to a recent graduate? As a recent graduate, you’re stepping into an exciting and challenging phase of your life. Here’s my advice to help you navigate this journey:
First, pick an emerging lane or industry. Look for sectors that are growing and show a lot of potential for the future. These areas will offer you ample opportunities for career growth and development.
Next, work hard—really hard. Outwork everyone around you. Dedication and perseverance are essential, and your commitment to excellence will set you apart and open doors for advancement.
It’s important to understand that work-life balance is somewhat of a myth, especially at the beginning of your career. Early on, focus heavily on work. Building a strong foundation will allow you more flexibility and balance later in life.
Always volunteer for assignments, ask for more responsibilities, and be visible. Be a great team player and never back down from what is right. Seizing these opportunities will make you more noticeable to your superiors and colleagues, demonstrating your willingness to contribute and grow.
Lastly, be mobile and willing to move as many times as needed. Flexibility in relocating can open up more opportunities. It shows your dedication and adaptability, which are highly valuable traits in any industry.
What does work-life balance mean to you? Work-life balance is traditionally defined as the amount of time you spend doing your job versus the amount of time you spend on what’s important to you outside of work, whether that’s with loved ones or pursuing personal interests and hobbies. However, it’s important to understand that work is part of life. Work and life are interconnected. People often forget that work is simply part of life, not a separate entity. How we spend our time each day is our life, whether we like it or not. When people focus too much on work-life balance, they may run the risk of settling for less. The goal of life is not to balance pain (work) and pleasure (life). The right career can be something far greater than a way to make money or occupy your time. When done right, work creates life, not the other way around. A fulfilling career can enhance your overall life experience, forging connections and providing a sense of purpose.
