Camille Joseph

The Why: Joseph has made it a personal goal to ensure the industry tackles the digital divide head-on. She oversaw the team responsible for Charter’s collaboration with the NYC Housing Authority to launch “Big Apple Connect,” the largest free municipal broadband program in the U.S. She takes her passion outside of the office, too, as she sits on the boards of Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, the Lower Eastside Girls Club and Eleanor’s Legacy.

She Says… “There has certainly been a noticeable shift in recognizing that diverse perspectives lead to innovation, better decision making and a more motivated workforce.”

How have attitudes about DEI changed since you began your career? There has been a noticeable shift in recognizing that diverse perspectives lead to innovation, better decision making, and a more motivated workforce.

How has advocating for DEI benefited your company or department? Charter’s commitment to DEI has greatly benefited the work that we do, not only in state government affairs, but throughout the entire company. By embracing unique and diverse experiences and perspectives, we can better inform our decision making and connect with the broad range of communities we serve across the country.

What movie or show is must-watch for celebrating diversity and why? The 2016 film “Hidden Figures” is a must watch for celebrating diversity. While they have often been overlooked in history, the film demonstrates the heroic contributions by black women at NASA who were instrumental in the USA’s success in the space race. Their efforts led to one of our country’s greatest achievements, despite facing unimaginable hurdles from discrimination in their personal and professional lives.
