During the last two years, Song has expanded his duties and now oversees both AMC and SundanceTV’s national ad sales businesses. To boot, he’s one of the key architects of AMC Networks’ Upfront & Scatter strategy. A native of South Korea, Song is pleased to see the success of “Crazy Rich Asians” and notes, “I’m hopeful to see more movies and shows featuring more diversity.”

What’s a recent example of a step forward for diversity in the industry?
Several releases of movies & shows featuring/starring minorities as the lead. Happy to see the success of “Crazy Rich Asians” – to see a studio make a movie like this is great to see. Seeing its success, I’m hopeful to see more movies and shows featuring more diversity.

In what areas should the industry step up its efforts with regard to diversity and inclusion?
I would love to see more diverse people given the opportunity to hold top positions at companies. Also, would love to see brands continue to support the value of minority consumer markets. And having agencies invest in diversity and multi-culturally-focused teams and departments, as well as recruitment in the hiring process.

What’s your best advice to someone just entering the video content/distribution industry?
Are you willing to learn as quickly as the world keeps changing? Strive to be the only, not the best.
