Philip Nutsugah

After a busy year spent launching new products including the Contour Stream Player and the Panoramic WiFi app and Pods, you’d think Nutsugah could relax a bit. Instead, he’s constantly working on developing new innovative products. Right now he’s bringing Gig speeds to 99% of Cox customers, redesigning the Cox Connect app, Home Hotspot and SD-WAN, among other things. Nutsugah believes companies can improve the recruiting process by “including unconscious bias training for all hiring managers and recruiters and ensuring that any screening methodologies or algorithms are stripped of unconscious bias.”

What does your company/organization do to ensure all employees feel included?
Cox has an active Corporate Diversity & Inclusion Council, led by our president and a number of senior executives, in addition to a number of employee resource groups.

How can diversity be better incorporated into the recruiting process?
Including Unconscious Bias training for all hiring managers and recruiters and ensuring that any screening methodologies or algorithms are stripped of unconscious bias.

Can you share a successful diversity program at your company or one you’ve observed at another company or organization?
At Cox, diversity goals are included in every leader’s annual individual MBOs, with impact to compensation in the goal is not met.
