Patricia Jo Boyers

It’s been a difficult year for independent cable operators, and ACA Connects chairman Boyers has taken the lead in mapping the association’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. She was a strong and early advocate in support of the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected pledge and has been a powerful voice on Capitol Hill when it comes to the plights of small providers. She’s just as hard of a worker outside of her cable day job, and works to support her community at every turn. During COVID-19, beef from her family’s cattle ranch was donated to workers and their families to keep them well fed for weeks at a time. “My leadership style has always been hands-on, leading by example, down in the trenches with my folks—and this crisis was no different,”she says.

What is one of your proudest moments during the pandemic? When the going gets tough, the tough get going and that is exactly what this old broad did! My entire team and I simply leaned into the crisis—we ran toward the storm.

If you were a teenager attending virtual classes right now, what advice would you give yourself? My advice to myself if I were a teenager attending virtual classes: Note to self: STUDY YOUR ASS OFF!! Take advantage! Take initiative! Become a self-starter! Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you!

What is the biggest factor needed to eliminate gender inequality in the workplace? The biggest factor needed to eliminate gender inequality in the workplace? STOP seeing gender/STOP seeing race/STOP seeing the differences. START seeing the character of each other/START seeing the solutions instead of the problem/START showing respect & integrity and /START DEMANDING the same respect & integrity of others. USE THAT LEADERSHIP to bring others along! I am a firm believer that we should “BEGIN with the END in mind.” The point is for us to consider CAREFULLY what we hope to be in 5, 10 or even 20 years down life’s road and to START NOW in living our lives toward those goals. Do you dream of having a career in which you build a reputation of integrity, eliminating gender inequality and making a difference in folks’ lives? If so-pursue that dream by showing integrity and eliminating gender inequality in your work life FROM DAY ONE. You need to understand that families and careers and our personal lives are built STEP by STEP and DAY by DAY WITH THE END IN MIND. The time to begin living in faith and integrity toward the day when we shall all stand before our LORD, that time to begin living in faith and integrity is NOT tomorrow-or in 5 years, 10 years or even 20 years-or in the sunset of our lives-BUT TODAY. BEGIN with the END in MIND.
