Maria Brennan

Brennan has proven to be a visionary leader with an instinctive talent for building and aiding in the creation of women leaders who transform the cable and media industry. Through her passion and expertise in the diversity and inclusion space, she regularly emphasizes WICT’s responsibility to keep data points on the business case for gender diversity and inclusion front and center. In bringing that commitment to life, this year WICT will deploy the biennial PAR employment survey, measuring gender diversity in the cable industry. Brennan emphasizes that the way to “ensure greater diversity in the recruiting and hiring process is to ensure the candidate pool is rich with qualified, diverse candidates.”

What’s one way your company has broadened the recruiting process to ensure greater diversity?
One of the best ways to ensure greater diversity in the recruiting and hiring process is to ensure the candidate pool is rich with qualified, diverse candidates. In other words, you have a 100 percent chance of hiring a white male for an open position if the candidate pool is all white men.

What one female empowerment book do you think every woman should read?
I’ll give you three: “Becoming” (Michelle Obama), “Daring Greatly” (Brené Brown) and “Grit: The Power & Passion of Perseverance” (Angela Duckworth). I think women and men would appreciate any of these books.
