Scripps has been an early content provider for Snapchat and Facebook Watch, keeping its lifestyle programming as relevant as ever in 2017. Asked what topic will dominate industry headlines next year, she says, “The explosion of great and innovative content, and the multitude of new ways audiences have to view it.” In the wake of Discovery’s acquisition of Scripps, expect Finch to capitalize on the resulting content synergies.

Who is your favorite current female TV character and why?
I think Rachel Maddow is the smartest female in primetime. It’s refreshing to see a woman take on tough issues and tough opponents, and I hope she’s inspiring young, smart women to become our future journalists.

What is one way the industry can continue to evolve in ridding itself of gender discrimination?
It’s very simple—the industry needs more female leaders. Women holding the decision-making jobs provides a fast path to ending gender discrimination in the office and on the screen.
