Katherine Pope

Since arriving at Charter in 2018, Pope has commissioned original programming ranging from “LA’s Finest” to the new “Mad About You” limited series. She’s determined to position the Spectrum Originals platform as a premium destination for Spectrum subscribers. Pope understands the connection between female recruitment and providing women a path to success. “I think those two things are inexorably linked—senior leadership reflects the values of the company. Recruiting is easier when there is a diversity of talent at meaningful levels,” she says.

How can the industry do a better job of recruiting women and ensuring they have a path to senior positions?
I think those two things are inexorably linked—senior leadership reflects the values of the company. Recruiting is easier when there is a diversity of talent at meaningful levels.

What advice would you give your 13-year-old self?
Well, I have a 14-year-old daughter, so I feel pretty prepped for this one! Though her world is incredibly different from mine, my advice to her and to the younger me is the same—trust yourself, hard work is a reward unto itself, and don’t let guys interrupt you.

Which current shows best reflect the kind of women’s roles you like to see and why?
What I find exciting about this moment in time is that female characters are allowed to be as complex, flawed and authentic as male characters—think of the leads of “Killing Eve,” “Insecure,” “The Good Place,” and our own “LA’s Finest”—these characters aren’t crafted out of any kind of warm and fuzzy cliche.
