Juan Otero

This past year, Otero focused on amplifying Comcast’s digital equity efforts, working closely with partners at Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program, Hispanic Federation, Reboot Representation and more to identify and address gaps in providing digital tools and skills to neighborhoods across the country. As a senior leader at Comcast, he infuses DEI into every facet of his work, including board memberships, and uses his expertise to shape company culture and policy.

What movie or show is must-watch for celebrating diversity? “Champions” tells the story of a former minor league basketball coach who is ordered to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. It is a story of wonderful growth that casts a much-needed light on people with intellectual disabilities and their place in our society.

What nonprofit are you proud to champion and why? The Hispanic Federation (HF) excels in bringing community-based solutions to life by offering empowering programs that bridge the digital divide through improved technology access and literacy, supporting civic engagement in a time when we desperately need an engaged voting populous, and by delivering vital support to Puerto Rico through disaster relief and recovery efforts. I’m proud to work alongside HF as their efforts empower Latino communities across the nation with practical, impactful solutions that address both local and state-wide challenges.

Advice I would give a recent graduate: Be an informed challenger of the status quo. With the all-too-many issues that divide this country, including attacks on DEI, it is crucial to develop critical thinking skills that go beyond quick headlines on the internet. As recent graduates and the future stewards of the republic, you must understand our shared history to build towards an informed, collective future.
