Has the internet created more inclusion or exclusion? Both. The internet has democratized access to communication, education, health, workforce, innovation, information and so much more. However, while the pace of technological ability increases at an accelerating rate, we must be mindful of the digital divide, and think beyond the internet and its infrastructure to include more opportunities for digital inclusion.
What’s your boldest prediction about your industry in the next 10 years? Watching the streaming and bundling landscape unfold has shown that providing continued innovation for telecommunications and entertainment industries starts and ends with evolving with needs of consumers. In short – a single source that provides endless personalized experiences. Amid the fragmented market, the industry’s North Star is data. Highly intelligent algorithms, content delivery networks (CDNs) for seamless and tailored experiences, as well as cloud computing technologies will become the norm. I predict there will also be an emphasis on new and exciting ways to retain customers and captivate new audiences with the wealth of choice.
Advice I would give a recent graduate: A wide tree grows tall.
First, invest in your roots by discovering yourself. Be open to new experiences and journeys that will allow you to learn about yourself; discover what you’re good at, what you love to do, and what you dislike. Find your why. Then, brace for changing seasons. Whether it’s job opportunities, the market/industry, technology, or everything in between, embrace it. I’ve always seen success in someone willing to learn, adapt and grow. Lastly, blossom. Every moment is an opportunity to grow. Your biggest asset is your network. Pay attention when things go well. Pay extra attention when they don’t. Develop good habits early on and set yourself up for success. Your degree shows your knowledge and willingness to pursue. Who you are shows how long you’ll be around.
