Jana Winograde

Winograde’s skill when it comes to developing fresh content saw her elevated to her role as president of entertainment in 2019, and she’s quickly proving why. She oversees programming across all genres, with hits like “The Comey Rule,” “Vice” and “L Word: Generation Q” bringing in solid ratings and critical acclaim. And who could forget about the upcoming revival of smash hit “Dexter?” She’s a firm believer in mentorship, and participates in multiple mentoring programs. And while quarantine has made it difficult to connect with people, Winograde isn’t letting it slow her down. “Whether attending department meetings I wouldn’t normally attend, setting one-on-ones with team members beyond my direct reports, or prioritizing socially distanced hiking, walking or backyard drinks with my colleagues, I am making every effort to find ways to help the team feel connected to our leadership,” she says.

What is one of your proudest moments during the pandemic? While I’m incredibly proud of the work we have done managing the complexities of both shutting down and restarting our productions, my personal proudest achievements were perfecting a homemade version of L.A. favorite Jon & Vinny’s spicy fusilli a la vodka and managing to get my daughter off to college in another state during a pandemic!

How has your leadership style changed during the pandemic? I’ve always tried to relate both personally and professionally to my team. Making those connections has been more difficult during quarantine, so I’ve really broadened my contact points. Whether attending department meetings I wouldn’t normally attend, setting one-on-ones with team members beyond my direct reports, or prioritizing socially distanced hiking, walking or backyard drinks with my colleagues, I am making every effort to find ways to help the team feel connected to our leadership.

Who is a female celebrity you admire and why? Michelle Obama is my hero. I wept through the recent CNN First Ladies episode about her, as I couldn’t believe it was only four years ago that we had a woman of such intelligence, grace, humor and humanity in the White House.
