Elaine Frontain Bryant

Bryant’s bold leadership has revitalized A&E with a mix of innovative non-fiction programs such as “Live PD” and “Undercover High,” plus classics including “Biography,” “Intervention” and “Cold Case Files.” Under her guidance, the network nabbed seven Emmy nominations this year. “The one constant in the media and entertainment industry is change,” Bryant says. “Relying solely on the age-old overnights is no longer considered the key measurement for success. Live +3 and Live +7 data are the new norms and are critically important to capture time-shifted viewing of consumers.”

What’s a recent example of a step forward for women in the media industry?
Slowly, but surely, women are being recognized for their talent and are being offered more opportunities to be in authoritative roles throughout the industry. The hard-earned success of Patty Jenkins is a perfect example. As the director of the mega-hit “Wonder Woman,” she unequivocally proved that a woman can direct a huge action film with a female in the lead. She has opened doors for others to follow both in front-of and behind the camera. No longer should there be any excuses. Progress has been made, but there are still miles and miles to go.
