Orlando was upped to her new role in September, running the development of an overarching BET Networks music strategy across linear and SVOD programming, as well as tentpoles and award shows. She oversaw the success of the 2020 BET Awards, despite a global pandemic attempting to intervene. She’s also active in BET’s $25 million social justice campaign “Content for Change,” working to support the creation, distribution, marketing and promotion of content working to eliminate systemic racism. “My entire professional career has been passionately rooted in telling our authentic stories and blowing up the stereotypes of what the African American experience should look like, feel like, or be limited to,” she says.
The conversation about racial injustice in 2020 has been… a long time coming! These issues have been around for decades and the world is finally seeing what we have been saying for generations. Now we need to turn these “conversations” into actionable items that will effect CHANGE.
