This past year Bragan continued to expand AMC Networks’ support for various diversity initiatives, including the Black History Month PSA campaign featuring members of the Congressional Black Caucus in customized spots. In addition, she oversaw the activities of the company’s nine newly formed Employee Resource Groups including groups for women employees, Latinx employees and LGBTQ employees. “Diversity and inclusion are now not just things to do or say,” she explains. “They are recognized as important to every aspect of the business.”
How can diversity be better incorporated into the recruiting process?
While there is great work being done to increase diversity in the industry by organizations like T. Howard, there is still a need to increase opportunities for people of color at the executive level and top creative roles. We need to show the young leaders of today that there is a space for them at the top.
What questions is the industry not yet asking in its efforts to be more diverse and inclusive that it should be?
The most important question is: What is the action behind the conversation? Diversity and inclusion are now not just things to do or say, they are recognized as important to every aspect of the business. Each power player in the industry should be asking themselves, not what are we saying, but what are we doing?
What does your company/organization do to ensure all employees feel included?
The most important thing we can do is be open to new thoughts and ideas. At AMC Networks, we are always improving the way our employees can feel a part of our community and proud of the work that we do.
