This Cable TV Pioneer has her hands full with her day job, yet Field makes the time to cultivate strong business relationships and mentor others. What specifically does your company do to support and elevate the women who work there?
Charter supports the recruiting of women across the company. In my business unit we look for a diverse candidate slate that includes women with technical backgrounds. Charter also provides opportunities for ongoing technical and leadership development, including mentoring and engagement with key organizations like Women In Cable Telecommunications, the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity In Communications and Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers.

Each year, a significant number of our undergraduate and graduate interns are women and people of color. We have had an exceptional experience with these interns, and many of them continue their careers with Charter after completing their degrees.

Which current shows best reflect the kind of women’s roles you like to see and why?
“Madame Secretary” shows a lead female character who is a model leader. She is intelligent and thoughtful about how she addresses issues. Despite any challenges, she always retains her composure and evaluates solutions from others’ perspectives. She always works in a highly collaborative manner. She also provides opportunities for her staff and colleagues to grow. She values having a highly diverse team with varied experiences and strives for openness in sharing ideas because she knows this approach ensures the best solutions.
