Catherine Bohigian

Bohigian spent a large part of 2018 in a New York state of mind as the state’s Public Service Commission went to war with Charter over whether the MSO is meeting the conditions of its 2015 acquisition of Time Warner Cable. She’s also keeping her pulse on lawmakers in Washington, making sure that Charter’s name is in the mix when it comes to 5G, privacy and other hot button topics. She takes pride in working for a company that has prioritized building a highly skilled, diverse workforce. “In the government affairs division which I run, three of my SVPs are exceptionally talented women who inspire and effectively lead their teams while also being great moms to their young children,” she says. “I don’t know if someone in my position could have said that 10 years ago and certainly not 20 years ago. This is progress for our industry and for women in general.”

What’s a recent example of a step forward for women in the media industry?
We are seeing women lead functions throughout the telecommunications and media ecosystem. I am lucky to work for Charter, which has prioritized building a highly skilled diverse workforce and providing meaningful opportunities for career advancement throughout the company. In the government affairs division, which I run, three of my senior vice presidents are exceptionally talented women who inspire and effectively lead their teams while also being great moms to their young children. I don’t know if someone in my position could have said that 10 years ago and certainly not 20 years ago. This is progress for our industry and for women in general.

Who is an inspirational woman you admire, and why?
Indra Nooyi recently finished up an impressive 12-year tenure as CEO of Pepsi. The company’s revenues grew by 80% during her term. She took real risks in a very competitive environment, charting a new path for the company into healthier snacks and beverages. And I read once that she wished she had spent more time with her kids when they were young—a reminder to make sure I’m keeping things balanced!
