What makes for a successful Employee Resource Group? I think successful Employee Resource Groups share three main characteristics: authenticity, consistency and transparency. The stated mission of the group should be clearly identified. Members should find comfort in knowing that the purpose of the group won’t change from day-to-day. Goals should align with the mission of the group and be clearly communicated to the organization.
Organization you’re proud to support? An organization I am very proud to support is the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA). Among its stated missions is to “research and point out when news media organizations stray from accuracy and fairness in the coverage Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and AAPI issues. The organization also champions Asian American journalists to become leaders in the industry. AAJA helped me get my start in journalism.
Bucket list travel destination? I would love to take my children to China and Israel so that they can gain a better understanding and appreciation of their mixed heritage. Given that their mother is Chinese and father is Israeli they need to view the world from different perspectives. I want them to learn about the culture, food, music and language of their ancestors. It’s important that they recognize who they are, feel a sense of belonging with both heritages and take pride in their multiracial background.
