Alison Hoffman

Hoffman helped take Starz to a whole new galaxy, with its total number of streaming subs surpassing 10 million at the end of March. She was one of the key execs responsible for launching the Starz app and managing the network’s DTC business. Over the past year, Hoffman has led Starz’s efforts to build its streaming business, delivering 70% growth year-over-year domestically. She’s also been heavily involved in Starz’s #TakeTheLead initiative, which pushes diverse representation in the entertainment industry on and off camera. Hoffman takes pride in Starz’s and Lionsgate’s inclusive hiring process. “Key components of this include bias-free job descriptions, inclusive hiring training for managers, external diversity partners, diverse candidate slates, and cross-functional interview panels,” she says. “It is something we are very passionate about.”

What’s one way your company has broadened the recruiting process to ensure greater diversity?
We have instituted an inclusive hiring process across all of Starz and Lionsgate. Key components of this include bias-free job descriptions, inclusive hiring training for managers, external diversity partners, diverse candidate slates, and cross-functional interview panels. It is something we are very passionate about as building diverse teams is critical to serving our brand mission of premium programming for women and underrepresented audiences.

What one female empowerment book do you think every woman should read?
Two of my favorites are “We Should All Be Feminists” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and “Men Explain Things to Me” by Rebecca Solnit.
