Craig Robinson

The Why: Overseeing 80 global chapters (and 30,000-plus members) of NBCU’s ERGs is only part of Robinson’s role at the company. He also leads efforts at Comcast, NBCU and Sky to build programs, allocate resources and partner with international and domestic organizations to combat racism and inequality, and he fosters DEI-focused external partnerships. Among them is a yearlong program working with the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment to fast-track select assistants and coordinators and a partnership with the 1in4 Coalition to advance authentic representation on both sides of the camera.

He Says… “I’m so proud of the recent storyline in Peacock’s ‘Bel-Air,’ which prominently featured a main character’s mental health issues, helping to de-stigmatize a topic not always openly discussed in the Black community. Secondly, I’m so excited about the positive reception to the new ‘Real Housewives New York’ cast, and its reflection of the diversity of one of America’s greatest cities.”

Who do you view as a DEI champion? Bryan Stevenson, the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, has dedicated his life and career to helping the incarcerated, challenging racial and economic inequality, and giving a voice to people who are too often voiceless. Visiting the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Ala., is a transformative experience, and Bryan’s selfless commitment to equity serves as an inspiration to us all.

Organization you’re proud to support: So many groups are doing great work, but I’m especially honored to serve as a member of the Roybal School Advisory Board. The Roybal Film and Production Magnet School in downtown Los Angeles is providing students with real-life experience in marketable skills in the film and television industries, who will be ready to enter the workforce when they graduate. It is especially gratifying, since the school is located in the same zip code where I grew up and was a student in the LA City School system.
