With WiFi deployments a priority, Time Warner Cable cares about the amount of spectrum available in the US. So much so that it commissioned New America Foundation's Michael Calabrese to study and report on unlicensed spectrum, releasing his findings Wed. “Advancing a national goal of seamless and affordable mobile device connectivity will require an enormous increase in the availability of both licensed and unlicensed spectrum capacity,” the report concludes. It puts forth 3 recommendations: move forward with the TV band incentive auctions, implement 3.5-3.7 GHz band sharing and expand unlicensed use of the 5 GHz band.
