The Why? When Ma applied for college in Beijing, computer science was not a choice many girls made. Today as CTO of the Comcast tech platform, she often shares this experience with women engineers. She also encourages women engineers to demonstrate leadership by sharing her insights on coaching, all while evolving FreeWheel’s offerings, including the launch of a new audience-based TV buying technology that unifies planning across premium linear and connected TV.
She Says: “Hire people with diverse backgrounds and promote diversity in the work environment. Promote awareness of unconscious bias, manage bias and foster a more inclusive environment.”

What TV series or movie inspires you? I love the old movie “Forest Gump.” Another movie I love is the “On the Basis of Sex,” which is 2018 movie based on the early life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her famous quote “Fight for the things that you care about but do it in a way that will lead others to join you”. She didn’t have an easy life at those years, but she fought hard and was dedicated to her job and her cases. Both her life and her accomplishment perfectly explained her famous quote.
How can leadership best support DEI? The first step is to hire people with diverse backgrounds and promote diversity in the work environment. The second is to promote awareness of unconscious bias, manage bias and foster a more inclusive environment. As a leader, we should lead by example by celebrating the differences and being inclusive.
