In many ways, Mitchko-Beale’s teams are the backbone of Charter, building capabilities on top of the network that powers everything the operator does. She’s currently focusing on the Spectrum Mobile product, researching and implementing network features that will allow Charter to better utilize its CBRS Spectrum for data offload and better connectivity experiences. While she is a huge proponent of technical training, Mitchko-Beale also encourages her teams to support their inner development. “I would recommend ‘Inner Business: Training your Mind for Leadership Success,’ by Linda Bjork and ‘Unapologetically Ambitious: Take Risks, Break Barriers, and Create Success on Your Own Terms” by Shellye Archambeau,” she says.
What’s one way your company has broadened the recruiting process to ensure greater diversity?
At Charter, we recognize the value of a diverse and inclusive workforce, which leads to greater innovation based on diversity of thought, perspective and experiences. We have been deeply focused on diversifying every level of our organization, as have worked closely with our corporate and executive recruiting teams on a number of initiatives, such as increasing our relationships with HBCUs (from 2 to 10 institutions) and ensuring we have diverse candidate slates for VP and above external searches. Both actions are critically important in Engineering and Technology, which generally have significant underrepresentation of women and multi-cultural talent. In addition, we have Business Resource Groups and Charter Inclusion Talks, education, resources and support to employees while uplifting diverse voices across the company.
What one female empowerment book do you think every woman should read?
I have so many books that I think are great for women and men to advance their own personal development. It’s hard to pick one so I’ll give you two. I am always focused on the inner development. I would recommend “Inner Business: Training your Mind for Leadership Success,” by Linda Bjork and “Unapologetically Ambitious: Take Risks, Break Barriers, and Create Success on Your Own Terms” by Shellye Archambeau.
