Julie Laine

Laine leads the company’s compliance legal team, which oversees all internal processes for promoting and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, company policies and contracts. Additionally, she’s responsible for ensuring Comcast’s compliance with governmental and third-party conditions and commitments arising from the Comcast NBCU joint venture, and for coordinating NBCU’s compliance. “We should all be ready to call things out, even if it’s not happening to us personally,” Laine suggests as a way the industry can rid itself of gender discrimination.

Who is your favorite current female TV character and why?
I love Keri Russell on “The Americans”—She’s smart and tough, and I’m always rooting for her despite all of the despicable things she does.

What is one way the industry can continue to evolve in ridding itself of gender discrimination?
By challenging men and women to speak up when they see something go on that shouldn’t—we should all be ready to call things out, even if it’s not happening to us personally. Letting things go continues bad behavior.

What famous woman, living or deceased, would you like to have dinner with?
She is only famous among my family, but I’d have to say my grandmother, who was one of my best friends and who I still miss dearly.

Best advice for relieving stress?
Playing board games and sports.
