Jennifer Hightower

Hightower helped resolve a long-time issue between Cox and another provider in 2017 that ended with both companies forming a business relationship. “I always enjoy working with multiple parties to obtain a good resolution rather than defaulting to litigation,” she says. In 2018, Hightower expects to deal with cybersecurity and industry consolidation issues. “The implications of both will keep attorneys busy for years,” she says. Hightower serves on the Atlanta’s Woman’s Foundation Board of Directors and the Greater Metro Atlanta YMCA Board.

What have been the most important legal issues in communications for you in the past year?
There is never a shortage of exciting issues! Last year was the year of Net Neutrality/Title II…. In addition, we resolved a multiyear dispute between Cox and another provider that resulted in a significant business relationship which is beneficial to both companies.  I always enjoy working with multiple parties to obtain a good resolution rather than defaulting to litigation.

What is your golden rule for negotiating?
Come prepared.  Understand your facts, issues, liabilities and the other side’s.  Remember to play the long game if you ever want an ongoing business relationship

What’s the biggest sleeper issue in communications?
Cybersecurity and industry consolidation are two of the many issues that will remain of great importance for our industry. Both issues are growing in importance and the implications of both will keep attorneys busy for years!
