Jason Gumbs, Comcast

The Why? Gumbs is a digital equity champion. This year under his leadership, Big South notched up efforts to promote Comcast’s partnership in the Affordable Connectivity Program, and he’s a staunch advocate for Internet Essentials as well as including Xfinity Mobile as another affordable way to connect citizens through the ACP. His region has been heralded for helping businesses affected by the pandemic rebound via Comcast’s RISE Program, and Big South also developed Together Towards Tomorrow, a partnership with several local chambers of commerce that awards struggling businesses grants to help them thrive.

He Says… “Be mindful when recruiting talent and ensuring that there is always a diverse talent slate. Shy away from hiring someone just like you.”

Book I wish everyone would read: “Inclusion Dividend” by Mason Donovan

How can leadership best support DEI? I believe being thoughtful, intentional and practical is the path to support DEI. Be mindful when recruiting talent and ensuring that there is always a diverse talent slate. Shy away from hiring someone just like you. When leading and engaging a team be present and aware; make sure all individuals voices are heard and not just invited to the table. Be a mentor or sponsor of diverse individuals. Show support by asking how you can help.

Coworkers describe me as… A mentor, a leader, a culture warrior, a great employee advocate, inspirational.
