Friday Abernethy

Friday Abernethy serves as senior vice president of Content Distribution for Univision Communications, Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America. In this role, she oversees UCI’s Content Distribution sales and licensing efforts for both television and digital platforms across multiple genres including, broadcast television, sports, and Spanish- language programming. She has executed deals, under a variety of business models, with all major linear and online distributors of content along with SVOD, OTT and Social distributors.

Her responsibilities include distribution of the Company’s linear networks, including Univision and UniMás, and its diverse cable portfolio including Galavisión, the country’s leading Spanish-language cable network, Univision Deportes Network—the No. 1 Spanish-language sports network and No. 4 in primetime year-to-date, Fusion, El Rey—a new 24-hour English-language network, as well as a suite of targeted Spanish-language cable networks.  She also oversees the distribution of UCI’s digital offerings and OTT content, including UCI’s direct to consumer subscription video service, Univision NOW.

Prior to joining UCI, Abernethy served as executive vice president of Distribution Sales and Marketing for Pop, formerly TV Guide Network, where she was responsible for setting the Network’s long-term distribution strategy and was instrumental in a major repositioning of the company. Prior to joining Pop, Abernethy was vice president of National Accounts/Field Operations for Content Distribution at MTV Networks, where she and her team secured distribution for all of MTV Networks and BET Networks’ cable channels across linear television, online content, video on-demand, HD and other new and emerging platforms. Before that, Abernethy held posts at GE Capital, a division of General Electric, and JP Morgan Chase.

Friday is passionate about her community and is very involved in fundraising for Camp Becket and Camp Chimney Corners to ensure children of all economic means have the ability to attend summer camp.

She is a graduate of Denison University.
