In a tough RSN world, Abernethy has helped Monumental transform into a digitally focused media platform as well as one that broadcasts and promotes women’s sports across a variety of levels. She has also helped it achieve over 35,000 paid subscriber additions in her two years in addition to obtaining more than 200,000 app downloads and 1.5 million streaming users since the app’s launch.
“There needs to be equal investment and commitment across the board for women’s sports to continue to grow. Monumental became the first local network to feature a dedicated pre- and postgame show for every WNBA regional broadcast.”
What has been your favorite trend from the past year? “Monumental Sports Network and others across the RSN landscape are doing more with their live rights than ever before. In just over a year, we’ve enhanced the viewing experience for fans in the D.C. region by introducing direct-to-consumer subscriptions, a multi-view feature with new angles to watch the action, and engaging alternate broadcasts, including Spanish-language broadcasts for the Capitals and Wizards.”
