Andrew Ip

Ip is the guiding light behind Charter’s technology organization, leading efforts to introduce, develop and commercialize new technology that will help Charter expand into new marketplaces. He joined smart home services provider Plume’s board earlier this year, and believes diversity and inclusion is directly tied to the success of any company. “Our success in influencing the technical direction of the company is highly reliant on us operating in an inclusive manner and ensuring that every individual’s voice is heard,” Ip says.

The conversation about racial injustice in 2020 has been… eye opening. It shows how much farther we have to go as a society, despite the digital age of rapid change in which we live.

In what ways can companies best show a sincere commitment to diversity and inclusion?
Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) need to be part of a company’s central operating system. The deeper D&I are embedded, the more credibility an organization has. This includes everything from external branding, to hiring practices and career pathing, project staffing and criteria for success.

How have you been a champion of diversity & inclusion in your professional life?
My group is responsible for pushing the technology envelop. As such, it’s critical to be inclusive of multiple viewpoints as we challenge our assumptions, collect feedback and pursue initiatives. Our success in influencing the technical direction of the company is highly reliant on us operating in an inclusive manner and ensuring that every individual’s voice is heard.
