FCC Keeps AT&T-DirecTV Timeline

The FCC Media Bureau rejected a request from Public Knowledge, Community Broadband Networks Initiative and others to extend the deadline for filing comments and petitions related to AT&T ’s proposed $48bln acquisition of DirecTV. Citing the proximity of the deadline to the Aug 25 deadline for Comcast-Time Warner Cable comments, the groups were hoping the FCC would extend the Sept 16 deadline by 30 days and give similar extensions for deadlines on filing replies. The Bureau said it already had established a “relatively lengthy” 3-month pleading cycle because of the complexity of the transaction and because it’s often the case that potential commenters have interest in multiple proceedings at the FCC.
