ClariPhy Communications Inc., which makes ultra-high speed mixed signal, digital signal processing (MXSP) systems-on-chips (SoCs) for coherent optical networks, unveiled a 40G coherent SoC for metro networks. To alleviate cross phase modulation (XPM), which results from the interference of adjacent 10G channels onto 40G DP-QPSK wavelengths in a DWDM system and which limits the number of optical spans and reach achievable in metro coherent deployments, ClariPhy collaborated with Cortina, an OTN solution provider, to meld ClariPhy’s CL4010 LightSpeed Coherent SoC operating at an increased data rate of 47 Gbps to support the advanced forward error correction (FEC) capabilities available in Cortina System’s CS604x and CS600x optical transport network (OTN) processors…Phoenix Photonics, a U.K.-based optical-fiber components specialist, added two new products to its Firebird instrumentation family: a programmable polarization control instrument and an associated polarization controller microprocessor interface…Calient Technologies Inc.’s S320 high-density photonic switch now is available in Europe, used to create a network fabric with total throughput of 32 Tbps. The company says its switch allows any-to-any network connections with almost no latency and can be reconfigured on demand through network management. Each switch port is transparent to bit rate supporting data speeds to 100 Gbps and beyond. The S320 is used for data-center, government and communications networks, and it’s a component for next-generation Software Defined Networks…A new erbium doped fiber (EDF) MP980-II product now is part of OFS’ broad RightWave EDF portfolio. The company also is touting a new dispersion slope compensating module (DSCM) for the cable-TV market that includes wavelength flexibility, zero polarization dependent loss, smooth slope dispersion compensation, and flexibility in packaging with both spool or boxed spool offerings.
