A new working group created by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) aims to advance the association’s focus on recycling efforts within the cable industry. The Recycling Working Group, part of the SCTE Standards Program’s Sustainability Management Subcommittee (SMS), will be responsible for identifying and codifying recommended practices that are designed to ensure proper management of e-waste. The document is intended to address recommended lifespans for equipment used in cable systems, optimal end-of-life processes for cable equipment and recycling-based financial models. In addition, the working group will create recommendations for collection of data related to the industry’s recycling efforts. Peter Muscanelli, vice president/Sales and Marketing for Colt Recycling, will chair the working group, whose first meeting will take place during SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando next month…The network-integration project between the Zayo Group and the AboveNet networks (following Zayo’ purchase of AboveNet in July) has been completed, nearly doubling Zayo’s national network reach and providing connectivity to more than 61,000 route miles in 45 states and 7 countries. Zayo also wrapped the consolidation of network-management and customer-support into a single network control center…Colo.-based Kaelus, a Smiths Interconnect business, added LTE 800 test capability in its portable and bench Passive Intermodulation (PIM) test equipment. Also available with the LTE 800 band portable PIM test instrument is the Range to Fault (RTF) module that helps network operators eliminate PIM problems at a cell site…The RPDpass Indoor MDU Solution from Corning Cable Systems LLC is designed for quick connection of riser segments and drop cables in medium- and large-sized MDUs. It uses a MTP Connector-enabled riser segment to connect the main distribution terminal and floor distribution terminals. Its storage capabilities, either in the basement- or floor-distribution hardware, allow for a plug-and-play approach without cable slack storage concerns. Either MTP or single-fiber SC connectivity inside the floor distribution allows cost-effective routing of the final drop cable to each end customer…Telco Systems, a developer of multiservice Carrier Ethernet, MPLS and AdvancedTCA solutions, added new blades to its high-density Line Interface Card (LIC) ATCA portfolio. The LIC and T-ATCA blades offer 10 GE and 1GE line cards that can be configured to support various aggregation scenarios in combination with carrier-grade high performance T-ATCA 40 GE switching blades. The blades are supported by BiNOX — a network operating system that addresses the performance and scalability challenges required for carrier-grade deployments. The new ATCA solutions reportedly will facilitate LTE RAN, security firewall and intrusion detection appliances, cloud gateway devices and deep packet inspection equipment.
