In a newly released Optical forecast report by Dell’Oro Group, total worldwide Optical Transport equipment revenue is forecast to resume positive growth in 2010, reaching $16.6 billion in 2014.

"We forecast positive growth of the optical equipment market this year and through 2014,” Jimmy Yu, director of optical transport research at Dell’Oro Group said in a statement.  “We should see a couple of the optical equipment segments benefit from the focus that telecom service providers are placing on high bandwidth consumer services such as wireless 3G data and video.”

According to Yu, the expansion of those services will in turn drive deployment of more 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps wavelengths. One upshot is that nearly one-third of DWDM long haul and WDM metro revenues will be 40/100 Gbps DWDM by 2014.

Dell’Oro expects the DWDM 40/100 Gbps market to be $3 billion in five years.
