TV Everywhere solutions developer Synacor Inc. and Comcast Spotlight have teamed to allow Comcast Spotlight to sell ad inventory on Synacor-managed Web portals in areas where Comcast Spotlight also sells local spot TV advertising on behalf of TV service providers that use a Synacor portal. Notes Tom Straszewski, vice president/Online Advertising at Comcast Spotlight, “As consumers become multimedia multitaskers—watching TV while simultaneously going online for everything from checking e-mail to managing DVR recordings to watching video content—advertisers are finding it valuable to deliver their messages across multiple platforms to achieve the impressions they need”…The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) will continue as a co-sponsor of the Administrative Council for Terminal Attachments (ACTA) through 2017, coupled with the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). ACTA is responsible for the adoption of technical criteria for compliance with FCC Part 68 rules and requirements governing terminal equipment connected to the public switched telephone network, and the maintenance of a database containing the registration of approved equipment that complies with these requirements. Through its role as secretariat, ATIS manages this database, which contains the master list of all registered telecommunications terminal equipment approved for connection directly to U.S. wireline networks…Sunset Digital will use Ciena technology to transport managed wavelengths at bandwidths up to 100 Gb/s for its service provider, enterprise and residential customers throughout northeast Tennessee. The Ciena 6500 Packet-Optical Platform comes with WaveLogic coherent optical processors. The network was funded by through a $24 million grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and it will be completed no later than 2015…Bright House Networks will deploy the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP) to move to 100G in its metro networks. The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP also features soft-decision FEC (Forward Error Correction), a third-gen encoding algorithm that reportedly enables longer distances and fewer regenerations on 100G optical networks.
