Comedy Central Launches Originals on Snapchat

Comedy Central is developing original series for Snapchat’s “Discover” feature, where nearly a dozen brands have been creating nuggets of content for the platform’s youthful audience since January. They’re not your typical series, since they’re mobile and app-based. And, their lifespan on the platform is just 24 hours. Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless called the move the “perfect next step in the evolution of our content.”
The first series, premiering September 8 and airing on subsequent Mondays, is “Swag-A-Saurus” from comedian James Davis. It’s a humorous look at the hottest slang terms and what they really mean. Snapchat users will be able to make suggestions for terms to be explained on upcoming episodes. Other series will debut this fall from comics Nikki Glaser, Liza Treyger, Yassir Lester and Michelle Wolf .
Nikki Glaser’s series, “Quickie with Nikki,” will tackle the topic of sex with a playful, unapologetic approach. Glaser has a series on the linear net that’s premiering in 2016. Yassir Lester brings “Never Wrong with Yassir Lester” to Snapchat, a weekly series that takes down viewpoints from topical news stories. Liza Treyger explores her addiction to “consumption” of everything from buying things, to liking on Instagram to watching YouTube when you’re high. Lastly, Michelle Wolf has the sketch series “Now Hiring” where she plays the world’s most inappropriate recruiter.
