Although he began his marketing career in performing arts, opera and ballet, today Maldonado leads design and implementation of Cox’s enterprise-wide strategic segmentation and drives customer marketing. “[We] need to keep pushing for diversity at all levels of the industry—entry level, mid-level and senior most levels for companies across the industry,” Maldonado says. As an active Cox mentor, he suggests industry newcomers “know the demographics of the marketplace, their rate of change over time and what they’re projecting going forward. Skate where the puck is heading.”

What’s a recent example of a step forward for diversity in the industry?
I think Cox provides a great example as we have diversity goals built into our annual goals at the highest levels of our company—inspect what you expect!

The rate of change for the multichannel video market is significant and it’s accelerating.
