Under Lopez’s leadership, Lifetime successfully launched “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime”—the network’s block of 23 original holiday movies. She’s also a key to the success of the net’s Broad Focus initiative, ensuring women are hired to write, produce and direct content for Lifetime. She believes in hard work with a heart. “Compassion has to become more emphasized for change to happen without resentment and fear,” she says.
What advice would you give your 13-year-old self?
Don’t be influenced about what you think about yourself or how others see you. Hold on to the one thing that makes you special.
What changes, if any, has your company enacted since the dawning of the #MeToo movement, and what results have ensued?
It’s just repetition and reminders of how things are said; how they are heard and how that it isn’t easy to change a bad habit. I believe compassion has to become more emphasized for change to happen without resentment and fear.
Which current shows best reflect the kind of women’s roles you like to see and why?
I just love all of the female characters in “Killing Eve.” Each lead has qualities that make them strong and successful.
