Talaya Gaines

The Why? Gaines creatively pushes the DEI boundaries of MSG Nets’ content offerings through originally produced, branded, licensed and acquired programming. Recently, she was instrumental in developing a profile of the Battle of the Reel Jollof, an event celebrating African culture, food and sport, and in June she spearheaded the company’s Pride Month coverage to include a three-part panel series featuring LGBTQ+ trailblazers in sports. She’s also a supporter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

She says… “I think a successful ERG understands how to be appropriately disruptive when trying to create change within an organization while remaining true to the core values for whom they are trying to serve.”

What makes for a successful Employee Resource Group? I think a successful ERG understands how to be appropriately disruptive when trying to create change within an organization while remaining true to the core values for whom they are trying to serve. A space that allows for diversity of thought, innovative ideas and a place that humanizes the people that work for them.

Who has kicked down a door for you? So many to name, but my career wouldn’t have started without Mike Hill opening the first door. I’m forever indebted. Jemele Hill, Stephen A. Smith, Kim Blue, Amina Hussein, Nancy Cooney, Brian Lockhart, Barry Stanton and Wokie Daboh have all contributed to my professional development, among so many others.

Organization you’re proud to support? National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ)
