Why do you think DEI has come under attack by some? Some individuals believe DEI represents entitlement rather than opportunity. DEI facilitates diverse thoughts, backgrounds and beliefs in a company’s cultural landscape and decision-making. By creating a better environment for all, DEI strengthens a company’s culture.

Advice I would give a recent graduate: Even after graduation, continue to be curious and learn. The pace of change is accelerating, so what you know today may not work tomorrow. Innovation runs the core of every industry, so it’s important it influences you as well.

Who is an unsung DEI hero? My unsung DEI hero is my Dad. He immigrated to the United States from Jamaica in the late 1960s, and worked in the precision manufacturing field that didn’t have much diversity. Through his hard work and perseverance, he built his own business that impacted his community and changed perceptions. Most importantly, he created an example and environment where all his kids were able to attend college and thrive in their chosen professions.
