Michael Crotty

The Why? This past year, Crotty became a member of Paramount’s Global Inclusion Advisory Committee and he’s an active participant in SOMOS, an ERG that promotes community engagement, leadership development and increased representation. He supports several Latinx mentorship programs both within and outside of the company and has served on the boards of Creative Alternatives of New and The High School for Enterprise, Business and Technology.

He Says… “Teams and camaraderie is what drives me. Being there for those in their aspirations and challenges and counting on others to do the same is the sweet spot for me.”

Bucket list travel destination? Medellin, Colombia. Why? I grew up in a predominantly Colombian neighborhood and was surrounded by stories from here. Some say I may look like I am from that region and was often mistaken as such. It’s goofy, but I feel like I might learn something groundbreaking about myself on a trip there.

Organization you’re proud to support? Creative Alternatives of NY was an organization that I sat on the Board of for many years. We merged operations with other organizations but the work that is done is still so important and continues on. We used drama therapy to empower children and adults who have endured trauma to rebuild their lives. Through the use of screenwriting, acting, improvisation, visualization of characters and role-playing in a group setting, it helped get deeper in our minds to imagine a better future, to imagine the roles we can choose to become, and to feel the strength that we have inside to endure any trauma we may have experienced. It combined what I love in drama with what I love in helping others find strength.

Coworkers describe me as… Fair, empathetic, responsive and inclusive. I pride myself on being a “player-coach” since we all walk in different but often similar shoes. Life happens, fear and doubt distract us, and we all need to be reminded to find those sources of energy and passion that make it fun and worthwhile. Teams and camaraderie is what drives me. Being there for those in their aspirations and challenges and counting on others to do the same is the sweet spot for me.

How inclusive is your recruitment and talent development? I took and “graduated” from a several-month Cornell Course on diversity and inclusion. It was eye-opening the various tactics that we forget to apply or questions we forget to pause on to ensure inclusivity and psychological safety of our talent. I attempt to lead by example and consistency and we in our organization have made great strides here in promoting diversity of talent, voices and opinions. Thankfully I work for an organization in Paramount Global that truly and deeply values these initiatives and makes it a central point of conversation in almost all that we do (on-screen and off-screen) at all levels of the organization. It’s an honor to be part of this team.
