Garner’s work is integral to the success of A+E Networks’ distribution deals for nets including History, A&E and Lifetime in the ever-evolving ecosystem. His confluence of creativity and business acumen enables him to negotiate innovative deals across OTT, TVE, SVOD and more. During the last year he led the company’s expansion into podcasting through his collaboration across the brands and digital teams. While the industry has a ways to go regarding diversity inclusion, Garner says, “It’s been heartening to see more programs with diverse casts being recognized during awards season.”

What’s a recent example of a step forward for diversity in the industry?
It’s been heartening to see more programs with diverse casts being recognized during awards season, “Atlanta” and “Black-ish” to name a few. Also great to see Shonda Rhimes and Kenya Barris get monster deals at Netflix!

In what areas should the industry step up its efforts with regard to diversity and inclusion?
Nothing new here, diversity and inclusion in the C-suite continues to be a challenge and an opportunity.

What’s been the most dramatic change in your sector of the business today vs. three years ago?
The proliferation of choice for consuming entertainment continues at a break neck pace. AVOD, SVOD, skinny bundle vMVPD, Snapchat, Facebook, podcasting, and the list goes on and on.
