After earning a promotion in October 2023, Martinez’s purview grew to include all of Charter’s direct response marketing campaigns for residential customers as well as national acquisition campaigns. Since then, her team partnered with Charter’s Programming Acquisition unit on the launch of Spectrum Stream Latino and worked on Hispanic-focused campaigns to promote Charter’s connectivity products. That included a series of commercials that featured the Mexican pop band Reik promoting Spectrum One, which led to Charter putting on a free Reik concert in L.A.
What movie or show is must-Watch for celebrating diversity? One must-watch show is “With Love,” centered on a Latino family navigating relationships across holidays that authentically explores family, language and generational dynamics with culturally rich portrayals and a modern, joyful narrative that resonates with diverse audiences.
What Is the Biggest Misconception About Diversity Within Your Industry? One of the biggest misconceptions about diversity in our industry is that it’s mainly about hiring people from different backgrounds—resulting in a limited application of diversity. While diverse representation is essential, it’s equally important to foster an inclusive culture where different perspectives are valued, heard, and cultivated for leadership opportunities. The other key element is creating a fair and impartial environment that empowers people from underrepresented groups to thrive and succeed —and most importantly to feel they belong. Another common assumption is that diversity isn’t tied to business success, when in fact, diverse perspectives lead to more creative problem-solving, particularly in a sector as customer-centric and fast-evolving as the telecom industry. Diverse teams bring fresh perspectives and better understand diverse customer needs, driving innovation and market competitiveness. Also, focusing solely on racial diversity isn’t enough; we need to consider gender, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic backgrounds, and many other factors to truly foster an inclusive industry.
Has the Internet Created More Inclusion or Exclusion? The internet has created both inclusion and exclusion, and the balance between the two depends on various factors. From an inclusion perspective, the internet has democratized access to information and education, and the rise of digital platforms allows people from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities to connect, share their stories, and to find support. The internet can also reinforce exclusion. Digital divides still exist, with a higher percentage of Black, Hispanic or rural communities still lacking reliable Internet access so they can participate fully in today’s connected world. The internet can also magnify social inequalities, as those with more resources can better leverage it for opportunities. At Charter, we are ensuring the communities we serve can access the knowledge and opportunities digital connectivity offers by providing affordable, high-speed broadband to eligible low-income families through Spectrum Internet Assist, expanding rural broadband, and investing in underserved areas.
