Marie Censoplano

Censoplano’s ability to balance legal expertise with commercial strategy has scored several wins for Vyve Broadband in the past year, including bringing the ISP into the FCC’s Lifeline program, which will allow Vyve to expand access in some of its most rural and underserved markets. She is also guiding the company’s responsible use of AI tools so that Vyve can safeguard trust with customers as well as embrace new tech with confidence.

If you were a Taylor Swift era, which would you be and why? I would be the 1989 era. It represents reinvention and confidently embracing change while staying true to yourself. Just as Taylor Swift pivoted from country to pop and reinvented herself, I see transformation in business as an opportunity to innovate and grow. This spirit reflects how I approach leadership: encouraging others to stretch beyond their comfort zones and leading with clarity and empathy, even when charting entirely new paths.

What part of your job would surprise people the most? People are usually surprised to learn that my job is not just about contracts and legal matters. A significant portion of my day is spent helping teams think creatively, solve problems and grow. You could say I’m part lawyer, part strategist and part cheerleader, and that I help keep both Vyve’s business and people moving forward.

With all the buzz around AI and automation, what’s one “human” skill you think will only grow more valuable? I believe the “human” skill that will grow more valuable in the age of AI and automation is emotional intelligence, particularly the ability to connect with empathy and insight because of lived experiences. Technology can analyze data and mimic human attributes; it cannot truly understand people. This makes the power to listen, build trust and translate complex perspectives into meaningful action an increasingly essential trait for strong, effective leadership.

What’s a routine or ritual that keeps you grounded? A ritual that keeps me grounded is caring for my citrus trees every day. Tending to my trees reminds me to be patient, attentive and present. Watching something grow slowly yet steadily is a perfect counterbalance to the fast pace of business; it keeps me centered, focused and grateful for the simple things in life.
