Tam’s valuable leadership isn’t limited to high-profile affiliate renewals. A member of LEAP (Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics), he actively fosters a sense of inclusivity in the workplace and facilitates cross-functional collaboration with his colleagues. Tam regularly meets with other members of the APA resource group, discussing and celebrating cultural identity.
Advice I would give a recent graduate: Seek out opportunities that are challenging and push you out of your comfort zone. Not only does that help build confidence, but it also fosters professional growth and a deeper understanding of your strengths and capabilities.
What movie or show is must-watch for celebrating diversity? “Kim’s Convenience” is an excellent show that celebrates diversity through humor and provides a nuanced portrayal of the Asian immigrant experience. It explores themes of cultural identity and generational differences, while remaining accessible and authentically funny.
What does work-life balance mean to you? Work-life balance for me is all about flexibility and finding ways to manage my time effectively. It’s about setting aside time for family to enjoy activities together, like our annual ski trips or just going for a bike ride. Prioritizing regular exercise is also really important as it helps me to stay focused and manage stress.
