Campbell serves as the executive leader for the DEI stretch assignment for the Enterprise Business Intelligence function, is an Executive sponsor for an enterprise-wide mentoring program and is a co-founder and board member of the IDEA council and IDEAtor program. He actively speaks to classes at the middle school, high school, college and graduate school levels about potential career paths in the Entertainment, Media & Technology space and has funded two individuals’ participation in Technology Career development programs while also mentoring 11 individuals outside of Comcast.
Has the internet created more inclusion or exclusion? The internet has created both. For those with access, it provides a powerful means to connect, explore diverse opportunities and engage with various perspectives, cultures and ways of life. However, this connectivity also can create a greater divide, isolating those without internet access, which is why it’s so important to invest in broadband deployment, particularly in rural areas, as well as in digital skills training.
Advice I’d give to a recent graduate: My advice to recent graduates is to embrace a variety of opportunities with curiosity and openness. Learn from those around you and share your knowledge with others. Take risks, but also remember to savor the present moment instead of fixating solely on the future. Travel frequently to gain new perspectives and start investing early and consistently for long-term benefits.
Why do you think DEI has come under attack by some? I believe DEI has faced backlash partly due to fear of the unknown. Some worry that embracing DEI might diminish their own advantages or reduce their access to opportunities. Additionally, in some cases, there’s confusion about and a devaluation of DEI’s core principles. Some have ventured into DEI initiatives without fully grasping the necessary infrastructure and foundation needed to integrate it effectively and appropriately into their businesses, curricula, or communities. However, one of the many values of DEI is that through exposure to different experiences, better understanding is created, better ideas are generated, and better solutions are delivered.
